The passengers of the submersible Titan, which disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean while descending to the sunken Titanic, died quickly and painlessly, Florida International University professor Eileen Maria Marty said in an interview with CNN.
“The destruction of the body of the apparatus happened incredibly quickly, in just a fraction of a millisecond. All this probably happened before the people inside could even realize that there was a problem. It was painless,” she said.
Communication with the deep-sea vehicle of OceanGate Expeditions, designed to deliver tourists to the site of the sinking of the Titanic, disappeared on June 18, about an hour and 45 minutes after the dive. A few hours later, the US Navy’s top-secret acoustic detection system registered an explosion in the Atlantic Ocean, according to The Wall Street Journal.
According to the US Coast Guard, the wreckage of the bathyscaphe was found more than 200 meters from the sunken Titanic. They testify to a “catastrophic inward explosion”.
