Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is running for US President in 2024, is laying off staff due to lack of funds, Politico reports, citing a source familiar with the discussions.
“Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign is cutting staff as it struggles with a cash crunch,” the source said.
It is noted that up to 10 employees were laid off this week. The decision to cut was made due to the desire of the DeSantis campaign to meet fundraising expectations. It is noted that among the 20 million US dollars of donations collected in the second quarter of this year, more than 1 million were spent on wages, tax deductions, insurance, and so on.
CNN previously reported that DeSantis raised $20 million in donations in the second quarter of this year, 1.75 times less than the fund of its Republican rival, former President Donald Trump.
The US presidential election is scheduled for November 2024. Incumbent US President Joe Biden also officially announced in April that he was running for a second term in order to “finish what he started” and launched an election campaign website.
