The mayor of the American city of Tampa (Florida) Jane Castor caught more than 30 kilograms of cocaine while fishing, the local newspaper Tampa Bay Times writes.
According to the publication, Castor, along with her family, went on a boat to the Atlantic Ocean in search of lobsters and came across a shipment of drugs worth over a million dollars.
The mayor, who served for many years in the police, immediately identified the find – briquettes wrapped in plastic film with a butterfly on the label – and notified the coast guard.
Back in July, local authorities published a report about drugs found thanks to a “vacation boatman”, but only now it became known that it was the mayor of Florida’s third largest city.
“The mayor’s family spent the rest of the vacation diving and fishing. They didn’t come across any more drugs, but they caught about 60 lobsters,” the publication says.
According to the newspaper, this is not the first such discovery in the area – in just a month, boatmen caught cocaine, hashish and marijuana five more times.
