Several cases of malaria infection were found in the United States, the New York Post newspaper writes.
“Three new cases of malaria – one in Texas and two in Florida – made officials alarmed,” the publication said.
There have been no new cases of malaria in the United States for 20 years – the disease was last detected in Florida in 2003, the report said. According to the publication, those infected did not travel outside the United States, which is of particular concern to officials: mosquitoes with parasites can be in these states and continue to transmit the disease.
Malaria is a dangerous infectious disease with a high mortality rate.
